Irish photographer, Hu O Reilly, traveled to Gassire IDP (internally displaced people) site, 8km outside Goz Beida town in Eastern Chad, to document the work of MSF teams providing basic health care and psychosocial support to more than 15,000 displaced people.

Eastern Chad is in the midst of a humanitarian crisis affecting residents, refugees and IDPs. The conflict in neighbouring Darfur, the breakdown of Chadian state presence due to the existence of multiple rebel groups and inter-ethnic tribal fighting over scarce resources, such as water and food, continue to cause massive population displacements. By the end of 2007, increasing violence had led to more than 180,000 internally displaced Chadians living in camps and more than 240,000 refugees from Darfur entirely dependent on humanitarian aid.

Hu O Reilly's project in Chad was funded by Irish Aid and the Simon Cumbers Media Challenge Fund.
