As an MSF doctor, you might respond to an outbreak of cholera or meningitis, treat victims during or after an armed conflict, provide basic healthcare in a refugee camp or set up a treatment programme for HIV/AIDS or tuberculosis. Your clinical skills and resourcefulness will be put to the test as you deliver medical care to people in countries and regions where the healthcare infrastructure may have completely fallen apart. You will not be facing these challenges alone - Médecins Sans Frontières provides expert technical support including extensive guidelines and protocols.

MSF is particularly seeking HIV specialists, paediatricians, anaesthetists, surgeons, obstetricians/gynaecologists and infectious disease specialists.

Basic Requirements: 
  • Commitment to the aims and values of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)
  • Minimum two years of significant and relevant professional experience post-qualification
  • Demonstrated ability to work well as a part of a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience in supervising, training and managing others
  • Flexibility and ability to cope with stress
  • Willingness to work in unstable environments
  • Minimum of 3 months' relevant travel or work experience in developing countries
  • Available to work in the field for a minimum of 9 months

MSF is always looking for people with language skills and at the moment we are particularly looking for Doctors with good French language skills. We also accept applications from non-French speakers on an ongoing basis.

You should meet all the basic as well as the essential requirements relevant to your profession before applying to MSF.

Essential Requirements: 
  • Registration with the Irish Medical Council - Comhairle na nDochtúirì Leighis
  • Proven professional experience after registration (e.g. 2 years experience at SHO level)
  • Current or recent clinical experience
Desirable Requirements: 
  • Training in tropical medicine and/or infectious disease (especially TB and HIV/AIDS)
  • Minor surgical and obstetrical experience
  • Teaching, supervision and management skills
