MSF surgeons and anaesthetists often work with emergency teams to treat people wounded in conflict zones. At other times they join teams that are providing longer-term surgical care to communities without access to functioning healthcare systems.
During conflicts and their aftermath, surgeons and anaesthetists are needed for assignments generally lasting from six weeks to three months or more.
Basic diagnostic equipment and facilities needed to run an operating room may be limited; much of the sophisticated equipment you have come to rely on may simply not be there. Your clinical skills and judgment will be all important. Surgeons' responsibilities include general surgery, surgical-needs assessments, and training staff.
