World Refugee Day: Deplorable reception conditions for migrants in Kos

In Kos island, Greece, Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) provides medical care and water and sanitation support in the Captain Elias hotel, a disused, dilapidated hotel where migrants are directed to stay by the authorities while awaiting permission from police to leave the island.

The hotel is lacking basic facilities and hygienic and safety conditions are precarious.

Since the beginning of the year 46,000 people arrived by sea to Greece, fleeing war, violence and poverty in their home countries.

12.000 arrived in the Dodecanese islands, the only entry door in Europe for asylum seekers where there is no reception system in place.
