Refugee Crisis: Newborn rescued from a capsizing boat

The first sea intervention by MSF and Greenpeace in Lesbos – in coordination with and in support of the Greek Coast Guard - occurred near the beach at Efthalou.

A double deck boat filled with families that travelled from Turkey arrived at the beach before running aground on rocks. As a result the boat started capsizing.

During the rescue, 3 people came aboard the rescue boat, one newborn baby of about 2 months with his uncle (refugees from Iraq), and 1 young man from Syria. No casualties were accounted.
